Hydrate Mesa: Hydrate Your Yard with Rainwater Harvesting

September 6, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Free

Watershed Management Group’s popular Hydrate project series is coming to Mesa! Hydrate Mesa will teach you how to create a sustainable backyard oasis at your own home. The Hydrate Mesa series will be held at the Mesa Main Library on Tuesday evenings (Aug. 23 to Sept. 7) from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.  For every session you attend, you’ll receive a raffle ticket to be entered in a drawing for water-harvesting goodies. Attend any or all six programs.

HYDRATE YOUR YARD: This session is all about WMG’s 3 “S”s: slow, spread, and sink. Learn how to use passive rainwater harvesting to create a series of berms, basins, and swales that will direct rainwater to beneficial use for plants while reducing flooding and erosion in your yard. These practices will slow the flow of the water, spread it across the areas where it’s needed, and sink it into the ground.

Class project: Rain garden sizing and placement.

Class is FREE, but you must register.

NOTE: This class offers an OPTIONAL tour of a water harvesting installation at Mesa Urban Garden, 212 E. 1stAve, from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. This location is just 1/2-mile from Mesa Main Library. Participants will have time to go from the tour site to the Library by start of class start at 6 p.m.
