T. Sansom shared a photo where water and saguaros meet!
Ventana Canyon is located in the lower range of the stunning Catalina Mountains in the Tucson area. Snowmelt from the Catalina’s or summer rains feed into creeks, pools, waterfalls, and even a delightful destination called the Maiden Pools. Although the creeks are dry much of the year, much of the snowmelt from the Catalina Mountains percolates deep into the soil to join the Tucson basin aquifer.
To get there, take the first left off the entrance drive to the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort (7000 N. Resort Drive in Tucson), which should be signed as the way to the Ventana Canyon trailhead. The trail’s striking Sonoran Desert native vegetation includes saguaros, grasses, ocotillo, and agaves.
This photo by T. Sansom, is just one of over 1,000 submittals for our Spring 2014 Celebrate AZ Water Photo Contest. It provided a stunning opportunity to celebrate the importance and wonder of water in Arizona and to reflect on one of our region’s most precious resources.
