CONNECT WITH WILDLIFE IN YOUR YARD AND IN LEGO® FORM AT THE PHOENIX ZOO

December 15, 2016

Looking to attract native wildlife to your yard? It can be as simple as planting the right plants in the right places. The City of Glendale has just the book you need to get started. Welcome Wildlife to your Garden is a free publication that makes it both easy and fun to bring wildlife to your yard. Download a copy and start planning your “wild” new landscape today.

Hummingbirds are attracted to Trumpet Vine or Trumpet Creeper (Campis radicans), which also happen to be on the Arizona Department of Water Resource’s Low Water Use Plant List. Just in case you live outside the Phoenix-metro area, you can get plant suggestions for the Prescott Region, specialized lists for Tucson, and ideas for Santa Cruz County – each featuring different plants adapted to these diverse elevations and climates.

Visit the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden at Chaparral Park or the City of Glendale’s Xeriscape Demonstration Garden to see and learn about low-water-use plants and trees, water harvesting, wildlife habitats, and other tips to make your landscape beautiful and water efficient.

Want to learn even more about creating your own wildlife habitat? Visit Water – Use It Wisely for creative ways to attract wildlife to your landscape. Not quite ready to plant your own wildlife habitat? Visit the Phoenix Zoo and see a wildlife habitat of a different kind – one made out of LEGO® bricks!

The Phoenix Zoo featured Nature Connects®, an award-winning, record-breaking exhibition currently on tour in the U.S. Created with over one million LEGO® pieces, the show features 27 animal and flora sculptures built with LEGO® bricks by artist Sean Kenney. Be sure to look for the hummingbird sculpture! This stunning piece has over 60,000 LEGO® pieces and sits on the Arizona Trail, surrounded by live low-water-use plants.

The exhibit runs until January 2, 2017, so don’t delay! The Phoenix Zoo is the perfect place for kids and out-of-town guests to enjoy our beautiful, moderate winter weather and spy wildlife – both real and in brick form.

Water – Use It Wisely has two sets of four tickets for two lucky winners to visit the Phoenix Zoo and see the Nature Connects® exhibition. Wouldn’t it be great to take your family to the zoo during the holidays? For your chance to win, visit the Water – Use It Wisely Facebook page. The contest runs from Thursday, December 15 to Sunday, December 18, 2016. Water – Use It Wisely will announce winners on Monday, December 19, 2016.
