The Town of Queen Creek’s Water Conservation Art Contest
Sometimes the simplest conservation ideas are the most powerful.
Since 2023, the Town of Queen Creek’s Water Conservation Art Contest has invited K–12 students to answer an important question:
“How can you reduce your water use?”
Open to students who live in or attend school within Queen Creek’s water service area, the contest combines creativity, education, and conservation awareness. Students turn their water-saving ideas into original works of art, and the Queen Creek Library puts their creativity on display for the entire community to enjoy.
From turning off the faucet while brushing teeth to using a pitcher instead of running water continuously, students shared thoughtful reminders that conserving water doesn’t always require big changes—just a little awareness and intention.
The Downtown Arts and Placemaking Advisory Subcommittee judged entries based on originality, creativity, and how well they reflected the contest theme. Here are this year’s winners:
🥇 First Place
Shivanney Lakshmi, 12th Grade, Hamilton High School
“An important way that I can reduce my water use is by being mindful of how much water is wasted when the tap is left open and turning off the tap when I’m not actively using it.”

🥈 Second Place
Aliya Gardner, 10th Grade, Queen Creek High School
“I can use a pitcher of water instead of a flowing tap to prevent drops of water from being wasted. I could also use a pan filled with water to wash produce instead of running a faucet.”

🥉 Third Place
Paisley Page, 2nd Grade, Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary School
“I can turn off the water when I am brushing my teeth.”

The Town of Queen Creek honored the winners at a special reception, recognizing their creativity, artistic talent, and dedication to protecting Arizona’s precious water resources.
The contest is part of the Queen Creek Water Conservation Division’s Water Awareness Month programming.
At Water – Use It Wisely, we love seeing young people use their creativity to inspire conservation. After all, today’s student artists are tomorrow’s water stewards—and judging by these entries, Arizona’s future is in good hands.
